Lifestyle and Nutrition
Despite the advances in technology and medicine, the exact cause of inflammatory/ autoimmune disease remains unknown.  Scientists are currently looking for answers by conducting studies related to the effects of foods in our diet and the micro-organisms in our gut.

The picture is becoming increasingly clear that the food we put into our bodies plays the greatest role on our health especially regarding susceptibility to inflammatory diseases.

Latest Research
At Proactive Rehabilitation we help you identify the determinants in lifestyle and diet that are triggering your symptoms.  Once you know how to avoid foods, environmental factors, and/or activities that worsen your symptoms you have unlocked the door to achieving remission and getting off of dangerous medications.

In individuals with an inflammatory/ autoimmune disorder, the immune system becomes overactive and inflammation damages healthy body tissue in the process of targeting antigens (foreign substances and foreign organisms). This response is a hypersensitivity reaction similar to the response in allergic conditions.

In allergic reactions, the immune system overreacts to an outside substance that poses little or no threat. With inflammatory/ autoimmune disorders, the immune system reactions also cause damage when no significant threat is present. When diet and lifestyle are effectively modified with the result of reducing or eliminating antigens, the severity of symptoms are shown to decrease for many sufferers.

The risk of developing subsequent autoimmune diseases for those who do not change their lifestyle is high as antigens can present in other systems creating new inflammation in previously healthy organs or tissues in the body.
